Overview
WHAT IS AIR FORCE ROTC?
Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) is a program that prepares young men and women to become officers in the United States Air Force while completing their college degree.
IF I JOIN AIR FORCE ROTC, DOES THAT MEAN I’M JOINING THE AIR FORCE?
No. ROTC is a training program for military officers, but students in the program have not yet joined the Air Force. Students who complete the ROTC program will join the Air Force after graduating from college, at which time they will be commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the Air Force.
WHAT IS MY OBLIGATION?
Most ROTC graduates incur a four-year commitment after graduation. Pilots, Combat Systems Operators and Air Battle Managers have 6 to 10-year commitments after training, due to the high cost of training.
ARE THERE RESTRICTIONS AS TO WHAT STUDENTS SELECT AS THEIR MAJOR?
Not at all. In fact, AFROTC encourages you to take a curriculum you are interested in and can excel in. CSUSB and our neighboring cross-town schools offer degree opportunities in almost any discipline imaginable. ROTC’s main academic concern is students maintain a grade point average (GPA) 2.0 or above and obtain their degrees in the time period planned.
DO YOU NEED A CHALLENGE?
Do you like to be part of something greater than the status quo? Come join our team! Our cadets represent the smartest students in the Inland Empire. Student may attend any CSU, UC, Community College or Private University between Barstow and Temecula and still take ROTC classes at CSUSB through our cross-town (cross-town schools) agreements with other schools.
DO I HAVE TO BECOME A PILOT?
No. The vast majority of Air Force jobs do not involve flying at all. In the civilian world, there are thousands of jobs and careers - Doctors, Lawyers, Nurse, Dentist, Law Enforcement, Engineers, Finance, Intelligence Officer - the list is endless. For almost every civilian out in the work force, there is an Air Force officer counterpart performing a similar job. Check the Air Force ROTC website to find out which careers are in high demand and any/all special scholarship programs currently being offered.
